Breast Cancer the reality of what people say to your kids


This is a tough subject today: I am not sure why it happens but I have met a whole lot of ladies and we have shared these stories, confused why it happens. I know woman get afraid, that is just human. But they bail our kids up when we are not around and tell them really stupid things. By no means do I think it is done nastily, but children take it on board and it makes them afraid. I guess it's just about people protecting them selves.
I also noticed with my x-husband  Ian people told him I would die. I was so sick, the cancer ride is already scary. Seems it gets a whole lot worse as we have to combat and protect our loved ones against extra fear. You would wonder, as humans we can't protect those kids not hurt them. It's a simple recipe for disaster really. I was asked to blog this, I think we just need a little thought on what we say to cancer fighters family.

Examples of why kids get upset, this gets said to them :

  • What will you do when your mother dies?
  • Are you scared mum won't be here anymore
  • Cancer, oh dear do you know what that means
  • Are you and your brothers going to be ok when mum is gone
There is a very good book called Stuck for words, sometimes its maybe less said the better. Even though people mean well. Damage can be prevented.

Mastectomy Drain Breast Cancer Treatment

The  purpose of drains after mastectomy  is to drain away the fluid that can gather in the armpit region or around the scar on the chest wall. Some people after mastectomy also find that fluid gathers around the shoulder blade area on their back - this seems more common if the muscle from the back has been used for  breast reconstruction  at the time the mastectomy was done. When mastectomy is done - and especially if the lymph nodes are removed from the axilla or armpit - then there is a lot of tissue fluid and lymph fluid left with no where to go. This fluid normally flows through the lymph channels but if they are cut then it can escape into the normal skin and muscle tissues. Your surgeon will place drains under your skin after mastectomy.
