Pink Party raises $1.6 million to battle breast cancer

They came wearing pink tutus, pink Converse sneakers, pink pashminas and pink hats. A fashionable crowd put on the pink Saturday night for Elyse Walker's 8th Annual Pink Party to raise money for the Cedars-Sinai women's cancer program.
Hosted by actress Michelle Pfeiffer and Pacific Palisades boutique owner Elyse Walker, the night of fashion, fuchsia and fundraising resulted in channeling more than $1.6 million into the cancer program at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, bringing the cumulative fundraising revenue from eight years of the event to $7.8 million.
David E. KelleyLeslie MannJudd Apatow, Marcia Cross, Lisa Edelstein and Rainn Wilson were among the 850 guests who headed to Santa Monica Airport's Hangar 8 to sip pink grapefruit mojitos and watch a catwalk show featuring 80 looks from the likes of Stella McCartney, Kelly Wearstler and Bruno Cucinelli.
Justine Bateman got into the spirit by wearing a pink Tarina Tarantino feathered headdress. She told us she's gone back to school as a UCLA freshman in computer science. "I saw my future in entertainment as going on endless auditions, and I love to work," she said. "I wanted to be in a field where there are a lot of jobs." Bateman said it was her first time at the Pink Party and that she was impressed.
"Tonight, we celebrate women, fashion and friendship," said Walker in her opening remarks. Her mother, who died from ovarian cancer at age 42, is the inspiration for the event. Walker was still in college when she lost her mother and had to take the reins of her family's retail shoe business. Walker opened her own boutique in 1999, and it is there that she met Pfeiffer 13 years ago. "I discovered she likes to wear boots 12 months out of the year, just like I do," Walker said.
Pfeiffer, attending the event for the first time, said, "I'm blown away, this is pretty amazing."
"NCIS" star Michael Weatherly hosted a live auction featuring such goodies as a foodie package, composed of gift certificates to 20 of L.A.'s top restaurants. A silent auction included a lineup of stunning designer handbags (many of them pink) from Alexander McQueen, Roger Vivier, Reed Krakoff and others.
Walker also used the event to launch several exclusive Pink Party items, which are available for sale on her website forwardbyelysewalker.com and at her store, with a percentage of sales donated to the cause. Items include the amazing studded Chloe "Susanna" boots in pink and a Pamela Love double cage ring in rose gold.
Not forgetting any detail, Walker treated departing guests to late-night chili dogs on the way to the valet line -- from the world famous Pink's, of course.

"Hard nipples" - areola or nipple skin

Someone once wrote"... when i get really cold, or get goosebumbs all over my body, the whole things really scrunch up, like, my entire areola scrunches itself up into a wrinkled little mound. it looks really weird and ugly, and i haven't ever seen other people's breasts do it. what is wrong with my areola/nipples??" The answer: Well nothing is wrong. This is what my areola does too. It's a normal reaction to the coldness or to irritation / stimulation. The little muscles in the areola do a similar goosebump thing as your other skin can do. People often call this phenomenon "hard nipples". Also note that skin on areola has less feeling or sensation to it than other areas of your body. If the areola was very sensitive, then breastfeeding would probably be quite uncomfortable because the baby pulls and tugs it! The nipples are sensitive but the sensitivity changes with hormonal changes, such as occur at mestrual cycle or pregnancy. Also this v...

Mastectomy Drain Breast Cancer Treatment

The  purpose of drains after mastectomy  is to drain away the fluid that can gather in the armpit region or around the scar on the chest wall. Some people after mastectomy also find that fluid gathers around the shoulder blade area on their back - this seems more common if the muscle from the back has been used for  breast reconstruction  at the time the mastectomy was done. When mastectomy is done - and especially if the lymph nodes are removed from the axilla or armpit - then there is a lot of tissue fluid and lymph fluid left with no where to go. This fluid normally flows through the lymph channels but if they are cut then it can escape into the normal skin and muscle tissues. Your surgeon will place drains under your skin after mastectomy. These drains gather up the fluid and remove it to a bottle (or bottles) that you carry around with you. Some people use a  belt clip to attach the drain  to their waistband - making them more mobile. Others car...

Pancreatic Cancer breakthrough

Published Today By  Ana Sandoiu Fact checked  by Jasmin Collier New research now published in the  Journal of Natural Products  shows that a vine compound is highly effective in the fight against treatment-resistant pancreatic cancer cells. #cancer #cells #pancreaticcancer #breakthrough #natural #journalofnaruralproducts #cure #survivor #iamstillawoman #Anasandiou #jasmincollier A type of rainforest vine may hold the key to effective cancer treatments.  Pancreatic cancer  is notoriously difficult to treat, and the condition has a poor outlook. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), the 5-year survival rate for people with early-stage exocrine pancreatic cancer is  12–14 percent . A  new study  explains why that is and offers a potential solution. Gerhard Bringmann, a professor of organic chemistry at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg in Germany.  Specifically, human pancreatic ...
