International Breast Cancer Congress 2012

The Convenors of the Sydney International Breast Cancer Congress 2012 (SIBCC), formerly known as the 'Leura Conference', are proud to announce that their 7th Congress will be held in October 2012. The Congress will be held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month from
Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 October 2012 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and will once again be hosted by the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute.
The SIBCC will bring together Australian health professionals and international registrants, for an innovative, multidisciplinary conference. We are also bringing together Australia's leading medical, nursing and breast cancer groups, including BreastSurg ANZ, the Australasian Society for Breast Disease, the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Cancer Australia, the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia and the McGrath Foundation.
The SIBCC has also successfully attracted the 8th International Cancer Screening Network (ICSN), a conference held since 1997 and coordinated by the US National Cancer Institute. Day two of the conference will be planned with the ICSN and is to include the issues of epidemiology, screening and the world burden of breast disease. We are also very excited to announce that Breast Cancer Network Australia will be holding a concurrent consumer conference on the last two days of the congress, with one combined plenary session on Friday afternoon, the 26th October.
The SIBCC organising committee are currently developing what is set to be an impressive program, with a theme of 'Translating new research and technology into multidisciplinary, patient-centred care'. Plenary sessions on screening and epidemiology, genetics, DCIS, invasive disease (localised and metastatic), personalised medicine, targeted therapy psychosocial and supportive care are being planned. Workshops (radiography, breast care nursing, pathology etc.) will focus on specific discipline knowledge.
A highly regarded, internationally renowned faculty and Australian keynote speakers will share their knowledge and invite audience participation. We look forward to welcoming you to the Sydney International Breast Cancer Congress in October 2012.

"Hard nipples" - areola or nipple skin

Someone once wrote"... when i get really cold, or get goosebumbs all over my body, the whole things really scrunch up, like, my entire areola scrunches itself up into a wrinkled little mound. it looks really weird and ugly, and i haven't ever seen other people's breasts do it. what is wrong with my areola/nipples??" The answer: Well nothing is wrong. This is what my areola does too. It's a normal reaction to the coldness or to irritation / stimulation. Also note that skin on areola has less feeling or sensation to it than other areas of your body. If the areola was very sensitive, then breastfeeding would probably be quite uncomfortable because the baby pulls and tugs it! The nipples are sensitive but the sensitivity changes with hormonal changes, such as occur at mestrual cycle or pregnancy. Also this v...

Loosing a parent!

When a Parent Dies: Dealing with the Loss of Your Mother or Father By David Kessler This is spot on. I guess until you go through this you will never know.  #parents #love #grief #davidkessler #survivor #iamstillawoman  When a parent of an adult dies, there is almost an unspoken expectation that it will not hit you head on. An adult is expected to accept death as a part of life, to handle all sudden losses in an appropriate adult manner. But really, what does that mean? That you should not be sad? That you should be so grateful they didn’t die when you were a child that you don’t need to mourn your parent? The above considerations demonstrate an under-estimation of grief. Grief is the reflection of the connection that has been lost. That loss does not diminish because you are an adult or because your mother or father lived a long life. Our society places enormous pressure on us to get over loss, to get through the grief. But how long do you grieve for the man who...
