Cancer - Doctors

Doctors are special people, we trust them with our lives and we know that they have our best interest at heart. It all begins with a GP a family doctor and he has an amazing connection with the whole family. Mine had been around for 20 years, so a doctor & a friend. Someone you can tell anything to! When something goes wrong he will send you to have tests with specialist. Then again we trust them. So its important to be comfortable and know you are in the right hands. I did have a disaster 18 months ago. My doctor and friend Dr Michael McGrath diagnosed with stomach cancer lost the battle and passed away. A lovely man leaving behind a wife and 2 sons. Only 46 years old. So sad. Then we have to find a new doctor, that is hard but luckily another great move. Started seeing Gerry Paul, he is totally amazing and has done a great job continuing my care. RIP Dr McGrath.
Specialist: mine have been great. My Oncologist Dr Robilliard is great also. What a hard job, these guys have it really tough as they really have to try save your life. I am very happy with circle of doctors I have so many now. Cancer gives you the following GP, Oncologist, Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon and of course lots and lots of tests. Actually you always seem to have some doctors appointment. But isn't it great they look after us and keep an eye open......keeping us in good health!

    I loved you post because if I hadn't read 'Bolesno Grinje', I would have been misled. You are so right in all the points you raised. staggered was cruelty masqueraded as tradition.

    I agree its an amazing trust putting your life in the hands of another person, the comfort and bond that creates...its very special thats why you recommend them to help others..

Mastectomy Drain Breast Cancer Treatment

The  purpose of drains after mastectomy  is to drain away the fluid that can gather in the armpit region or around the scar on the chest wall. Some people after mastectomy also find that fluid gathers around the shoulder blade area on their back - this seems more common if the muscle from the back has been used for  breast reconstruction  at the time the mastectomy was done. When mastectomy is done - and especially if the lymph nodes are removed from the axilla or armpit - then there is a lot of tissue fluid and lymph fluid left with no where to go. This fluid normally flows through the lymph channels but if they are cut then it can escape into the normal skin and muscle tissues. Your surgeon will place drains under your skin after mastectomy. These drains gather up the fluid and remove it to a bottle (or bottles) that you carry around with you. Some people use a  belt clip to attach the drain  to their waistband - making them more mobile.
